This steel framed barn started life as the structure for the Banbury bus shelter. It was then moved to it’s current location to provide a storage space for farm machinery and stables for horses.
We have created a four bedroom, highly insulated family home with underfloor heating, MVHR and an air-source heat pump. The building has achieved below Passivhaus levels of air-tightness.
The home sits within the steel frame to allow for outdoor covered areas and for the steel barn to continue to be read as a whole.
A pre-cut timber I-beam structure was erected inside the steel frame with 300mm of Warmcell insulated walls.
Four steel I-beams were used structurally to frame the generous dining space and to reflect the external steel structure.
Large, triple glazed windows frame the views and bring the outside in.
The owners have begun an extensive planting plan and sowed a wildflower bank in front of the terrace.
