We have recently received planning permission for an annex to a farmhouse in Devon. The annex forms part of a multi-phased project for the farm. The design intends to provide accommodation for ageing members of the family where they can be cared for but live with a degree of independence.
We have developed a design which is sensitive to the local vernacular and respectful to its environment. The form of the building references a simple agricultural style with a single pitched roof for a familiar, modest building, and clad in black corrugated metal.
We have designed the building using a fabric first approach based on Passivhaus principles with triple glazed windows and doors and mechanical ventilation heat recovery, MVHR, as standard.
